Duominnow is a Duolingo-based app you can use to learn the scripts/languages in Splatoon! When the app is released, you will be able to learn Square Script and Bold Script just like in a Duolingo course!

I plan to update the app and add more scripts as time goes on! The app is available in English, French, Japanese, Spanish, Italian, German, and Russian!

Keep your streak alive by doing a lesson every day! Doing lessons give you Gold, which can be used in the shop for items, and they also give you XP to get medals and more Gold!

I may be wrong, but if the app runs on unreal engine 4, can't you export for Mac, Linux and Android builds? I would love to be able to use it on my phone instead of sitting down at my computer.

would love to see a broswer version someday!

I just found the arcade game in the app, nice easter egg!(i think it is one but maybe not)

It is an easter egg! It's in a new spot each update by the way so look out for that.

This is so cool, I'm on a 9 days streak and I remember almost flawlessly the entire square script, its really working!

My only issues are that sometimes the sentences to write get pretty repetitive and also sometimes the pairs in ''Select the matching pairs'' deselects themselves after I click another pair.

But thanks for making this app free!

Really love what you've got here so far! Question though, is there a way to change the resolution? My laptop's resolution doesn't seem to want to play nice with the default.

(+1)

I think I could actually!

Please make this open source.

I sure hope an android version eventually comes out. I'd love to do this on the go!

No way this is epic

this is a gamer moment

This is really good once I can figure stuff out, but also anytime I have to type something I realize what the sentence is about halfway through because all of them are from or related to the game in some way. Would be nice  just to have some other text, perhaps less recognizable so I can learn better

also i got the text "repping the splatlands" many times in a row.

Nice work on releasing 1.0! Making an app like this is incredible, and I certainly wouldn't be able to do it myself.

That being said, though, some minor quality of life issues I've encountered that make it a little harder to actually learn these scripts, as opposed to Duolingo's script lessons:

  • "What sound does this make" questions (hereafter pronunciation questions), in Duolingo, tell you you're wrong, tell you the correct answer, and let you move on to other questions, putting the question you answered wrong at the back of the queue. In Duominnow, the only info you receive upon entering a wrong answer is "wrong answer", and you remain at the question. This is a little discouraging if you have no clue what the letters actually are.
  • You're required to click the next question button, rather than press enter. This is a very minor thing, but I'd love to see more keyboard controls, such as numbers to select buttons.
  • The UI doesn't feel like it's built for a computer monitor, more like a phone screen that's been stretched out. (Very understandable, though, web Duolingo also feels weird.)
  • The streak graphics are very aliased, with a jagged, white outline. Likely less noticable on an eventual light theme, but it still took me off guard.
  • The sound button lies to me :( (lighthearted) There's no pronunciation guide on the letters! Which, makes sense, given that this is a very small project, but still. My issues with the pronunciation questions would probably also be a lot less pronounced (ha) if sounds were implemented.

Sorry for writing a wall of text, hah! This project is VERY cool, and I'm absolutely showing it to other Splatoon friends of mine :)

Patch 1.0.1 is coming out soon and I'll take this into consideration!

(1 edit)

is it normal ?

(+1)

Yeah those are prerequisites you have to download before the app can run. I think there's a way to remove it but I'll check

thx 👌
